World of Tanks
Wargaming.net didn’t expect to release one of the most popular video games of all time when
they originally released their first F2P release, World of Tanks, but whether they meant to or not,
that’s exactly what they did.
Recently logged in the Guinness World Book of Records for most players on one MMO server
at a time, breaking just over half a million users all logged in at once. This third person tank
shooter never really stepped too far out of the comfort zone when it came to offering new
features or revolutionary gameplay in the genre, but much like League of Legends has proved
over the past two years, if it’s free to play you can guarantee you’ll have a line of people waiting
to get their turn to try it out.
Encouraging deceptively deep levels of gameplay that rely on squad based combat, blitzkrieg
tactics, and all out heavy ammunition mayhem taking place at every corner of the map, it’s no
wonder why this game has become so wildly contagious in such a short period of time. Much
like Call of Duty or Battlefield, time spent in the game grants you XP towards your overall
garage of tanks and their upgrades, enabling you to tackle hundreds of different combinations
between parts, abilities, and pack formations to destroy the opposing team.
If you want a tank experience that delivers historically accurate vehicles, pulse-pounding
combat, and a steep learning curve which rewards only the most dedicated players, then World of Tanks is the game for you.
